Enameled jewelry is the process of taking a piece of copper or sterling silver, sprinkling glass powder and then firing in a kiln. Multiple layers of powder is typically applied.
Cloisonné is the process of applying silver wire onto the metal before any glass powder is applied. The metal creates channels or cells, and then the glass powder is mixed with water and then "wet packed" into those channels to create separate colors. Each of these cloisonné pictures were fired a minimum of 8 times in a kiln. It's a lengthy and laborious process, but so rewarding when the picture is complete!
This particular piece is set in fine and sterling silver. Each picture has a hand-sawn picture on the reverse, as a sort of secret treasure, just for the wearer. A hand made chain and clasp, with extension, completes this beauty.
